21 February , International Mother Language Day 

 21 february marks an important day - a date marked by blood and tears of those who stood steadfast as their voice were on the verge of being silenced .

21 february also known as " Amor Ekushey " the root of the bangali nationalism and independent country  , Bangladesh . Its a national day with a public holiday to commemorate the sacrifices and protests to protect Bangla as the national language in 1952 at the time of movement of the Bangali Language . 

The announcement of " International Mother Language Day " came from UNESCO in november 17 , 1999 . But it was officially recognized in 2008 , Under the United Nations General Assembly's resolution to establish . 

21 February is the most memorable annual day in the history of Bangladesh . More than 180 million people speak in the Bangla language across the world currently . 

A brief history of 21 February 

When the Pakistan was created 1947 from British , it had two Geographically separate parts ; East Pakistan (  present Bangladesh ) and West Pakistan ( present Pakistan ) . The two parts were very different to each other in the sense of culture and language . The two parts also separated by India

In 1948 , the Government of Pakistan declared that Urdu to be the sole national language of Pakistan , even though Bangla was spoken by the majority of people combining East Pakistan and West Pakistan . East Pakistan people demanded that Bangla to be at least one of the National Language , in addition to Urdu . The demand was raised first by " Dhirendranath Datta "from East Pakistan on 23 February 1948 . , in the constituent Assembly of Pakistan

The student of the Dhaka University , with the support of the General public , arranged massive rallies and meeting . On 21 February 1952 , police opened fire on rallies . As a result , Abdul Salam , Abdul Barkat , Abdul Zabbar , Rafiq Uddin Ahmed and Safiur Rahman died , with hundreds of others injured . This was a rare incident in history . 

Since then , Bangladesh celebrate the International Mother Language Day as one of their tragic day .
